Central Power Purchasing Agency Seeks Rs. 1.83 Increase in Electricity Prices
In a recent development, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to Nepra (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority) for electricity price hike by Rs. 1.83 per unit. This request, made through a fuel price adjustment, is currently under consideration by Nepra and is expected to be decided upon on September 27th.
The request for this fuel price adjustment pertains to the month of August, during which an impressive 15.47 billion units of electricity were supplied to various distribution companies (DISCOs) operating in Nepra’s jurisdiction.
If this request is approved, it would entail a financial burden of over Rs. 33 billion on electricity consumers. However, it’s important to note that this increase in electricity prices, if sanctioned, will not affect industrial consumers.
The proposal of electricity price hike has generated significant interest and debate among stakeholders, as it has the potential to impact households and businesses across the region. The decision made by Nepra regarding this request will undoubtedly have far-reaching consequences, and all eyes are set on the regulatory authority’s upcoming verdict.
