Pakistan has achieved a major milestone in trade as the country exported donkey meat to China for the first time under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The historic shipment, produced in the Gwadar Free Zone, has successfully reached Tianjin Port, marking a new chapter in Pakistan’s food exports and industrial cooperation with China.
The Chinese company behind the project said the exported food product is the first made in the Gwadar Free Zone to be sent to China via Gwadar Port. The company termed it a major milestone in the development of Gwadar as a trade and industrial hub of the region.
The company said that the donkey meat export was an important milestone in Pakistan-China trade relations and a positive sign of the progress made under the CPEC Phase Two for industrialization, investment and economic cooperation. The successful shipment also hoped to attract additional foreign direct investment (FDI) in the food processing sector and food exports in Pakistan.
The company highlighted that it would be impossible to implement the project without the support and cooperation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Ministry of National Food Security, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Planning.
The success of the export is a testament to the Gwadar Free Zone’s potential to grow into a significant hub for food processing, manufacturing, and export. The achievement will also expected to boost economic cooperation between Pakistan and China and provide fresh opportunities for Pakistan’s exports under the CPEC framework.
The initial shipment to Tianjin Port considered a promising move to diversify Pakistan’s exports and enhance the strategic significance of Gwadar Port in the regional and international supply chain.
