The Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination announced on Tuesday that an individual who traveled from a foreign country has diagnosed with monkeypox, making it the first case of the disease in Pakistan.
As per the officials from the Ministry of Health, an individual showing signs of monkeypox arrived in Pakistan on April 17th. The person has sent back from Saudi Arabia after deportation.
Following the arrival of the individual exhibiting symptoms of monkeypox in Pakistan, the National Institute of Health in Islamabad confirmed about the person’s infection. As a precautionary measure, the individual’s relatives, after completely screened, advised to remain in quarantine to prevent any potential spread of the virus.
To contain the potential spread of the virus, contact tracing measures initiated. Airports across the country put on high alert. Monkeypox is a viral illness cause by the monkeypox virus and can transmit to humans through direct contact. It can also transmit with infected animals, contaminated materials, or an infected person.
The standard treatment for monkeypox is supportive care. It may supplement with vaccines and therapeutics originally developed for smallpox in certain situations.
Monkeypox is an uncommon illness, but the current worldwide outbreak commenced in May of 2022, has affected over 78,000 individuals. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been closely monitoring the situation and issuing recommendations to impacted nations.
