Pakistan Election 2024: Public Holiday Announced in Pakistan on Feb 8th (Official Notification)

In a move aimed at promoting civic engagement, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given the nod for a nationwide public holiday on February 8, aligning with the much-anticipated general elections of 2024.

The official notification issued by the electoral watchdog mandates the closure of all educational institutions and markets on the designated day. This strategic decision, according to the ECP, is a proactive measure to ensure that voters encounter minimal obstacles while exercising their democratic right.

As the nation gears up for the pivotal elections scheduled for February 8, the voting window has been set from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm to accommodate the diverse schedules of the electorate.

In a parallel development, the Punjab government has proactively declared a four-day holiday across all schools and higher educational institutions within the region. This timely decision anticipates the demands of the upcoming elections, fostering an environment conducive to citizen participation.

During this electoral period, spanning from February 6 to February 9, both private and government educational institutions in the region, including schools, colleges, and universities, will observe a hiatus to prioritize the democratic process.

Adding to the sequence of public holidays, the federal government has already designated February 5 as a public holiday in observance of Kashmir Day. Subsequently, from February 6 to 9, the election holidays will be in effect. This timeline aligns strategically with the weekend, resulting in the closure of schools for an additional two days.

Following this week of civic importance, educational institutions are slated to resume normal activities on February 12, marking the end of the temporary closure. This thoughtful arrangement allows for an extended pause in routine activities, ensuring that citizens can actively participate in the democratic process while maintaining the educational rhythm of the nation.
