According to a statement from the Pakistani Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), persons flying to Pakistan based on an emergency can only have the validity of their machine-readable passports (MRPs) extended for a maximum of 20 days.
In a post on its social media sites, the embassy made a statement:
“It is informed that according to the policy guidelines of the Ministry of Interior, the validity period of MRP (machine readable passport) can only be extended for a period of 15-20 days in emergency cases for traveling to Pakistan only,”
More than 1.6 million Pakistanis currently reside and work in the UAE, making them the second-largest foreign community in the country behind Indians, who make up over 3.4 million of the total population.
A Zoom meeting arranged by Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, to discuss community concerns and possible solutions.
As a result of the threat posed by the current version of the Coronavirus, Pakistan’s Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination has implemented a surveillance system at all of the country’s airports to track travelers arriving in South Asian countries.
All travelers, including those departing from the UAE and other Gulf Cooperation Council nations, required to pass through thermal screeners set up at airports to identify and address the sub-variant of the virus under this new method.
