Pakistan Launches Online Ship Registration, Payments Soon

Ship and boat owners in Pakistan no longer need to visit a government office to register their vessel. Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced on Friday that the online Ship and Boat Registration System is now live.

Owners can submit their registration applications from anywhere. The ship and boat modules are both fully open for online use.

Who Runs This System

The Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) handles vessel registration in Pakistan. It falls under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. MMD registers merchant ships, fishing boats, sailing vessels, and harbour crafts under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance. The department was first set up in 1930 and is one of the oldest maritime bodies in the country.

Online Fee Payment Coming Within 15 Days

Right now, the system handles applications only. Payment still needs a separate process. The ministry is working on this gap.

MMD officials will meet the State Bank of Pakistan to set up an electronic payment option. Chaudhry said applicants will soon pay their registration fee through a single online payment link. He expects this to go live within 15 days.
