Pakistan’s embassy in Tokyo will start an e-passport service for Pakistani residents of Japan on October 15, 2026. Applicants will need an appointment before visiting.
Community Welfare Attaché Zahra Dastgir issued the booking instructions, according to Jang.
Book Before You Go
Download the E-Passport Appointment Registration Form from the embassy website’s Downloads section. Email the completed form to [email protected]. Include an e-passport appointment request and your full name in the subject line.
One Person, One Form
Each applicant needs a separate form. For children, the embassy accepts requests from parents or legal guardians. Anyone without a personal email address is free to use someone else’s email.
Wait for Your Date and Time
The embassy will reply by email with your appointment date, time, and reference number. Sending the form alone does not confirm a booking. The embassy will arrange appointments only through the designated email.
Bring your confirmation email and required documents when you arrive at the scheduled time.
What the Chip Does
An e-passport carries an electronic chip storing the holder’s personal details and biometric information, including a photograph and fingerprints.
Pakistan’s Directorate General of Immigration and Passports says compatible border systems read the chip to check the traveller’s identity.
Older Passports Stay Valid
Pakistan’s wider switch to e-passports takes effect on October 15. Existing machine-readable passports stay valid until their printed expiry dates, according to Gulf News. Holders do not need to replace valid passports because of the change.
Travellers must still meet their destination’s passport validity and entry requirements.
