Pakistan’s weekly inflation drops down by 0.40%

Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) data for the week that ended on December 15 showed that the joint purchasing group’s weekly inflation decreased by 0.40 percent, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) announced on Friday.

According to PBS statistical data, the SPI for the entire week under evaluation in the aforementioned category was 217.64 points as opposed to 218.51 points for the previous week.

From the corresponding week last year to the study week, the SPI for the entire consumer group jumped by 29.42%.

For all spending groups, the weekly SPI, with the base year 2015–16 =100, covers 51 necessary products and 17 urban centers.

In comparison to the previous week, the SPI for the lowest consumption group up to Rs 17,732 dropped by 0.77 percent to 225.69 points.

The SPI decreased by 0.65 percent, 0.51 percent, 0.44 percent, and 0.29 percent for the consumption groups from Rs 17,732-22,888, Rs 22,889-29,517, Rs 29,518-44,175 and beyond Rs 44,175 correspondingly.

Out of 51 goods, 22 (43.14%) saw price increases over the week, 9 (17.65%) experienced price decreases, and 20 (39.21%) saw constant pricing.

Tomatoes (-28.71%), potatoes (-16.63%), eggs (-2.64%), vegetable ghee 1kg (-0.91%), vegetable ghee 2.5kg (-0.65%), pulse masoor (-0.61%), pulse mash (-0.44%), cooking oil (5 liters) (-0.32%), and pulse grain (-0.22%) were among the goods with decreases in their average costs on a week-over-week (wow) basis.

Chicken (5.89%), onions (4.45%), washing soap (2.30%), wheat flour (2.17%), rice basmati broken (2.04%), rice irri-6/9 (1.74%), sugar (1.31%), firewood (1.27%), and salt powdered (1.08%) were among the items whose average prices increased.
