Peshawar BRT Ticket Prices to Increase by Rs 5 (Check New Fares)

In a recent development, the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is contemplating a fare hike. The base fare is expected to see an increase from Rs15 to Rs20, marking a Rs5 increment.

The BRT spokesperson attributes this proposed increase to the escalating electricity prices. As a result, the transport cost adjustment has become a necessity. Consequently, the maximum fare for the entire BRT route is projected to rise from Rs55 to Rs60.

Previously, Muzzammil Aslam, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adviser to the chief minister on finance, had indicated a potential fare increase. The provincial government aims to reduce the subsidy for the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit from Rs6 billion to Rs3 billion. The goal is to save Rs2 billion by cutting expenditure and Rs1 billion by hiking the bus fare by Rs5-Rs10.

Aslam also mentioned that if the bus service were to be privatised, the fare could skyrocket to Rs80 per person. The provincial government is currently addressing the province’s financial issues with the federal government.
