Prices of Sugar, Ghee, other Items Reduce after Drop in Petrol Prices

KARACHI: The prices of sugar, ghee pulses and other essential items have been reduced after a substantial drop in petrol prices.

In a significant development, the inflation saw a noteworthy drop due to recent drop in petrol prices and the rupee stabilization. This has brought relief to consumers and the market alike.

While the prices of manufactured goods have largely remained steady, a notable decline in prices has been observed in essential commodities. Sugar, flour, ghee, pulses, and rice at the wholesale level have decreased. This decrease in prices is a much-needed respite to consumers who had been grappling with soaring prices.

Chairman of the Karachi Wholesale Grocers Group Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said that there is a positive market developments such as decreasing petrol prices, the rising rupee value. But a concerning trend of profiteering at the retail level continues.

He said that on Friday, the wholesale sugar price surged to Rs 128. Whereas, the ex-mill sugar price reached Rs 124. Imported wheat also saw an increase, reaching Rs 95 per kilogram. Although this spike in prices did not result in lowering flour costs for consumers.

It was highlighted that despite favorable conditions due to the arrival of the new crop, flour mills continued to sell flour at Rs 131 and fine flour at Rs 144. To minimize the impact of inflation, it was stressed that measures must be taken to ensure that flour is not sold at prices exceeding Rs 110 per kilogram.
