PTI Chairman Imran Khan Found Guilty in Toshakhana Case: Sentenced to 3 Years in Jail

In a significant turn of events, Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has taken into custody at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore. This action comes right after his conviction in the Toshakhana case on Saturday.

A noteworthy development unfolded today as a district and sessions court found the former Prime Minister Imran Khan guilty in the Toshakhana case. Consequently, he has sentenced to a three-year imprisonment term.

The case, centered around allegations of misdeclaration of assets involving gifts received from the state gifts repository, has been a subject of contention. Despite Khan’s persistent efforts to challenge the case’s admissibility, Judge Dilawar ruled against him and handed down a three-year jail sentence along with a fine of Rs100,000.

Judge Humayun Dilawar, the Additional and Sessions Judge overseeing the case, affirmed in his judgment that the PTI chairman had proven guilty of misdeclaration of assets. The culmination of this decision led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Imran Khan.

In his pursuit to contest the Toshakhana case, which included appeals to the Supreme Court and Islamabad High Court (IHC), the former Prime Minister had faced numerous legal battles. His endeavors to challenge the maintainability order ultimately rejected by the high court, leading to the trial court’s summons for a hearing in the Toshakhana case.

Prior to his arrest, Khan’s request to have the case transferred to a different court was also denied by the IHC. The court directed Additional Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar to continue presiding over the proceedings.

This recent development marks a significant moment in Pakistan’s political landscape, as Imran Khan, a prominent political figure, faces the consequences of his conviction in the Toshakhana case.
