PTI Long March: Imran Khan’s Three Sisters Detained, Key Parliamentarians Arrested

After Aleema Khanum, PTI founder Imran Khan’s sisters Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan have also been detained in Lahore ahead of the party’s September 27 protest march. Several PTI parliamentarians have also been arrested.

Authorities have stepped up security measures ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest march planned for September 27. The party has announced the march to Islamabad as part of its campaign for Imran Khan’s release.

Several PTI parliamentarians have also been arrested or detained. PTI sources said five lawmakers have been taken into custody.

• Sanaullah Masti Khel, Saifullah Niazi and Ghaus Muhammad were detained outside Parliament Lodges.
• MNA Dawar Khan and Hamad Jamal Hassan Khan were arrested from Radio Pakistan Chowk in Mianwali.

Imran Khan’s Three Sisters Detained

Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz ordered Aleema Khanum’s detention for 30 days under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance on September 20. The order cited concerns about public safety and law and order. Aleema Khan was later shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail.

According to party sources, Aleema Khan was detained while leaving her home in Lahore’s Upper Mall area. She was reportedly heading to a gym. Her car was taken to Lytton Road Police Station.

Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan have also been detained today. The Lahore deputy commissioner issued their 30-day detention orders under Section 3 of the MPO on a police recommendation. Both were transferred to Kot Lakhpat Jail at around 2am, according to reports.

PTI also claimed that Aleema Khan’s sons, Sher Shah and Shah Rez, were taken into custody. Lawyer Rana Mudassar later said both men had been released.

Security Preparations Intensify

Authorities have also prepared measures to restrict protest convoys travelling towards Islamabad.

Rawalpindi police have sought the closure of 48 educational institutions to accommodate police personnel arriving from different parts of Punjab. Around 15,000 additional personnel are expected to be deployed, according to sources.

Authorities have planned trenches and barriers at several points on routes towards Islamabad. These include GT Road, 26 Number Chungi, Pirwadhai, IGP Road, Aswal Mor and Kati Pahari.

The security measures come ahead of the PTI’s planned September 27 protest and march to Islamabad.
