Public Holiday Announced in Sindh on July 29 for Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Urs

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on July 29, 2026, across the province in observance of the annual Urs of the renowned Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA). The announcement means all provincial government offices, semi-government institutions, and several public sector organisations will remain closed on the day.

A public holiday has been declared for Wednesday, July 29, across Sindh, as per an official notification from the Sindh Services, General Administration and Coordination Department, Wednesday. All provincial government departments, autonomous bodies, local councils and provincial government educational institutions will remain closed, according to the notification.

The government has issued instructions to all concerned departments that the holiday notification be implemented completely.

The Urs of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA) is among the biggest religious and cultural festivals in Sindh. Thousands of devotees from all over the country come to the shrine of the saint in Bhit Shah, Matiari District, to celebrate and pay respects to the saint every year.

Quran recitation, Sufi music, literary conferences, poetry sessions, cultural programmes based on peace, love, harmony, and brotherhood, are also organised in the Urs.

The district administration has coordinated with Sindh Police to chalk out complete security measures in view of the massive flow of visitors. Special traffic management plan, medical camps and clean drinking water facilities have also been introduced to enable the convenience and safety of pilgrims attending the annual gathering.

The public holiday declared in Sindh on 29 July will be applicable in all provincial government offices and institutions as communicated in the official notification, residents are informed across the province.
