Punjab Gives 96 Cows and Buffaloes to Help Rajanpur Women Earn

Punjab has distributed 69 cows and 27 buffaloes to women in Jampur. Asim Sher-e-Maken said the animals would support household incomes, as officials outlined veterinary services, livestock loans and a district allocation of 265 animals.

Women supporting families after widowhood or divorce are the focus of Punjab’s free livestock programme. At a ceremony in Jampur, Rajanpur, on October 21, 2026, Parliamentary Secretary for Livestock Asim Sher-e-Maken said the animals would become lasting financial assets for eligible women.

Milk Sales to Support Household Expenses

The Punjab Livestock Department selected recipients through balloting and provided the animals free of charge. Maken, Punjab Livestock Secretary Ahmad Aziz Tarar and Punjab Assembly member Sardar Sher Afgan Khan Gorchani took part in the handover.

Speakers said women who care for the animals would earn through milk sales and use the money for household and children’s expenses. The programme follows Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s plan to support rural women in southern Punjab.

Rs. 27,000 per Animal Through Livestock Cards

Maken also referred to support of Rs. 27,000 per animal through the livestock card for rearing costs. The wider card programme offers interest-free loans for animal feed and fodder.

Tarar said the government had distributed 9,255 animals to eligible recipients over the previous two years. He also reported Rs. 8.1 billion in interest-free loans through the Chief Minister’s Livestock Card Programme, with a repayment rate of 95%.

Tarar added that farmers had fattened more than 400,000 animals to meet export standards.

He also said each district now had veterinary hospitals and operating theatres.
