Punjab Introduces Dedicated Metro Buses for Women to Ensure Safe and Comfortable Travel

The Punjab government has introduced dedicated Metro buses for women as part of its efforts to improve passenger safety and provide a more comfortable travel experience. The initiative aims to reduce overcrowding and protect female commuters from harassment during peak travel hours.

The Punjab Transport and Mass Transit Department has dedicated 5 buses for women and deployed 5 Speedo buses on the Metro Bus corridor to enhance transport services for women. The shift will make life easier for thousands of women who use the Metro Bus Service every day.

The decision was made under the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with the aim of keeping women safe and convenient, Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said. The temporary deployment of Speedo buses will serve as a temporary solution to the increased demand while new metro buses are being bought, he added.

The minister also announced plans by the Punjab government to buy new Metro buses, each of which will be dedicated to women. This will help ensure that women passengers will have a safer, more comfortable and more reliable public transport journey.

Responding to rumours that were swirling around on social media, Bilal Akbar Khan denied both that the number of Metro buses had been cut and that they were replaced by Speedo buses due to faulty Metro buses. He said the Metro Bus fleet was still in service and that more buses had been added to enhance facilities for women.

The Punjab government states strengthening women’s safety in public transportation is one of its key priorities. The new initiative comes as part of action being taken to promote the use of public transport by women, through providing dedicated and secure travel arrangements.
