KARACHI: Severe heat conditions in Karachi have been compounded by prolonged power outages, with both scheduled and unscheduled load shedding now exceeding 12 hours in several parts of the city.
Reports of constant power interruptions in various localities are causing severe inconveniences to the people in their day to day activities as temperatures continue to rise.
The worst affected areas have been Garden, Lyari, North Karachi, New Karachi, Malir, Korangi, and Orangi Town, where lack of electricity has caused people to endure a lot of discomfort and mental stress because of the excessive heat.
Likewise, power outages in Manghopir, Surjani Town, Sohrab Goth, Baldia Town and other areas have caused a great adversity, affecting households, businesses, and basic services because of long time power cuts. Even regions that are not normally subject to long load shedding are reported to experience a number of hours of unscheduled outages.
The scenario has also affected normal life of the students who were about to write Matric and Intermediate exams. Electricity cuts have been frequent and have caused studying to be a burden to parents and educators.
Citizens have also been complaining about the present crisis and they want authorities and power distribution companies to act now and improve the situation of power supply particularly during the current heat wave that is being experienced in the city.
As temperatures continue to rise, Karachi residents remain caught between extreme weather conditions and an unstable electricity supply, further intensifying the challenges of everyday life.
