Sindh Government Implements Ban on Pillion Riding During Muharram

On Thursday, it was reported that the Sindh government has taken significant security measures for the upcoming Ashura, imposing a ban on pillion riding throughout the province on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The decision comes as part of their efforts to ensure a safe and peaceful observance of the holy month.

A notification issued by the provincial home department also highlights other restrictions to maintain security during religious processions. These measures include a ban on the public display of weapons and gatherings of five or more people, with the exception of the Muharram processions.

The statement specifically exempts certain groups from the ban, namely women, children under the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, law enforcement personnel, and security agencies in uniform, as well as essential services employees.

In a parallel development, the Punjab Home Department has also taken precautionary steps by implementing Section 144 across the province during the first 10 days of Muharram. This measure is aimed at maintaining law and order during the religious observances.

To ensure the safety of residents and participants during Muharram processions, the authorities have strictly prohibited the use of knives, swords, and sticks. Additionally, a ban has been imposed on people standing on the roofs of houses and shops along the procession routes.

By implementing these security arrangements, the government aims to create a peaceful environment for all citizens to observe the holy month of Muharram without any security concerns. These measures will help protect the sanctity of the occasion while ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.
