Sindh Govt Announces Rs3,000 Quarterly Stipend for Children Under 5

KARACHI: The Sindh government has approved a new financial support program under which children from birth to five years will receive a quarterly stipend of Rs3,000.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, presiding over the 3rd Board meeting of the Sindh Social Protection Authority (SSPA), approved a series of major initiatives aimed at expanding the province’s social safety net, improving maternal and child welfare, and providing income support to vulnerable rural women.

The board reviewed progress in the Mamta project, currently operational in 22 districts with a budget of Rs. 56 billion, benefitting more than one million registered beneficiaries. To improve predictability and ease financial pressure on poor households, the board approved a hybrid predictable payment model (PPM) under which mothers would receive cash disbursements on a fixed schedule, even if a health visit was slightly delayed.

According to officials, the initiative will benefit around 885,000 children and rural women, with a major allocation also approved for early childhood development programs.

Officials said rural women will also receive monthly financial assistance during non-productive periods to help reduce economic vulnerability and food insecurity.

The CM said that social protection was not only a welfare obligation but also a long-term investment in human capital. “Protecting mothers, supporting young children and assisting rural women during difficult seasons means strengthening families and building a healthier, more resilient Sindh,” the chief minister said.
