In a recent meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar, the Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister, emphasized the importance of water conservation and infrastructure development for industrial growth. The meeting, attended by prominent industrialists and government officials, discussed key issues and proposed solutions.
Water Conservation Measures:
Chief Minister Baqar directed the Water Board to regularize subsoil bores and install meters to accurately charge industrial water usage. He highlighted the need to prevent the mixing of sweet water with subsoil water, emphasizing the distinct tariff rates for each. The Chief Minister urged industrialists to collaborate in eliminating water theft, assuring uninterrupted water supply to their units.
Infrastructure Development for Business:
Expressing the government’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment, Chief Minister Baqar outlined concrete measures underway. He encouraged industrialists to support government efforts through cooperation in inspections. The development of all SITEs was reported to be progressing under the supervision of relevant associations.
Addressing Illegal Bores:
Chief Minister Baqar expressed concern about illegal bores developed by industrialists. The Water Board had registered 140, with the registration of others in progress. He directed the installation of meters to record subsoil water consumption and the implementation of distinct rates charged by the Water Board.
Firefighting System and Wastewater Treatment:
Industrialists raised concerns about the firefighting system, citing the lack of water to fill their tanks. Chief Minister Baqar suggested using treated wastewater for firefighting and called for a scheme to treat wastewater. Plans for developing firefighting systems at each SITE were discussed to enhance safety measures.
Infrastructure Challenges:
Industrialists highlighted the dilapidated condition of Mehran Highway. Chief Minister Baqar acknowledged the issue and assured that the matter would be addressed promptly.
Natural Gas Allocation:
Concerns were raised about the acceptance of RLNG, with industrialists advocating for natural gas produced in Sindh. Chief Minister Baqar committed to writing a letter to the Prime Minister, requesting Sindh’s fair share of natural gas.
