Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has recently made an announcement regarding an increase in gas loadshedding timings, affecting the residents of Karachi. With a shortage of 200 MMCFD gas, the company has extended the gas shutdown hours, leading to prolonged periods without gas supply. This news has sparked concerns among the citizens, who are already grappling with overnight gas load-shedding. The SSGC’s decision has drawn criticism from Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh, who demanded an immediate resolution to the issue.
According to a spokesperson from SSGC, the gas supply in Karachi will be suspended between 2 pm and 5 pm. This three-hour addition to the existing gas load-shedding schedule has intensified the daily gas outage duration, leaving residents without gas for a total of 11 hours during the day. The shortage of 200 MMCFD gas has forced the SSGC to implement these measures to cope with the demand-supply gap.
In addition to the increased duration of loadshedding, several areas in Karachi are experiencing declining gas pressures, further exacerbating the difficulties faced by the public. This has led to widespread dissatisfaction among the citizens, who rely on gas for various household and commercial purposes.
Responding to the situation, Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh expressed his concerns and criticized the SSGC’s decision. In a statement, he highlighted the suffering of the people in the province due to the company’s stubbornness. Minister Sheikh demanded immediate action to ensure an uninterrupted gas supply in Karachi, opposing daytime gas closures.
