In a disheartening turn of events, the sports arenas nestled beneath the Sakhi Hasan and Nagan Chowrangi bridges in Central District are now grappling with neglect and decay. What was once a symbol of community engagement and sporting spirit has now succumbed to the elements of time, as the lights, equipment, and gates of these arenas have vanished without a trace.
The Sakhi Hasan Sports Complex, inaugurated with much fanfare on August 25 by Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab and PPP leader Dr. Asim Hussain, is now a shadow of its former self. Shockingly, it has reported that Sakhi Hasan, who entrusted with the role of a watchman at the Sports Arena, has abandoned his post. This unexpected development has left the once-vibrant complex unguarded and susceptible to the ravages of time.
Similarly, the Nagan Chowrangi Sports Arena, inaugurated by former Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah on April 20, 2023, is facing its own set of challenges. Despite being under the watchful eye of a security guard for a brief two-week period, local residents reveal a distressing pattern of theft and vandalism by drug addicts who operate in organized groups, pilfering iron from the arena.
The decline of these sports arenas, once the pride of the community, is a cause for concern among residents who had once celebrated the positive impact of these recreational spaces. The disappearance of crucial infrastructure and the absence of security measures have not only affected the physical integrity of these spaces but have also left them vulnerable to antisocial activities.
