Who Can Apply for the Apni Ghar Apni Chat Scheme? Eligibility Criteria Explained

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a new phase of the Apni Ghar Apni Chat Scheme, introducing interest-free loans of up to Rs 1 million to help families improve and expand their homes across Punjab.

The latest announcement reveals that those who qualify could apply for an interest-free home loan with flexible monthly repayment periods of seven, eight or nine years. The scheme designed to provide financial aid to low-income families in need of financial support to construct safer and stronger homes.

Families in houses under weak roofs or weak walls are eligible to apply for the new scheme, said Maryam Nawaz. She also said that the program was implemented to tackle the issue of unsafe structures and accidents and to provide better living environments for the citizens of Punjab.

It came after the Punjab government allowed the “Apna Ghar, Mehfooz Ghar” campaign to launched following the Kahna tragedy. To mark this expansion, two new categories have added to the old Apni Ghar Apni Chat Scheme:

The revised programme will provide financial assistance of Rs 500,000 to eligible families for repairing and strengthening of houses with weak-roofs. Meanwhile, homeowners who wish to build a new level on their houses can have an interest-free loan of up to Rs 1 million, repayable in installments.

At an official review meeting held by the Chief Minister, it disclosed that over 18 000 families have already approved for interest-free loans under the scheme. The loans have sanctioned for more than 170,000 families and the Punjab government has provided Rs 217.8 billion for the housing programme.

Officials also shared that more than 134,000 houses have completed across Punjab, while over 27,500 homes are currently under construction. So far, the government has received more than 1.278 million applications, highlighting the strong public response to the Apni Ghar Apni Chat Scheme.

Residents interested in benefiting from the Maryam Nawaz housing scheme advised to check the official eligibility criteria and application process announced by the Punjab government before submitting their applications.
