In a groundbreaking development, the World Bank has thrown its full support behind the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as it charts the course for an unprecedented leap in the federal capital’s public transportation system. This move marks a significant milestone, with the international financial institution pledging crucial technical assistance to shape the future of commuting in the city.
Arrival of 30 High-Tech Buses from China
Anticipating a transformative shift, the CDA set to welcome a fleet of 30 state-of-the-art buses from China next month, marking the first phase of a grand initiative that encompasses a total of 160 buses. This strategic step poised to redefine the landscape of public transportation, promising enhanced efficiency and accessibility for the residents of the federal capital.
In a comprehensive preparation strategy, the CDA leaves no detail unattended. Three strategically located depots, with a major hub at Zero Point, are in the pipeline to accommodate the growing demands of the expanded bus service. These depots, touted as vital infrastructural components, will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of the intra-city buses, promising a new era of hassle-free travel.
The CDA has opted for open tendering for the contract bidding of the Zero Point depot. Despite extending invitations to five prominent government-owned companies, including National Logistics Cell and Frontier Work Organisation, none displayed interest in taking up the project. This commitment to openness underscores the CDA’s dedication to fostering a competitive and efficient public transport system.
As the CDA takes bold strides towards revolutionizing public transportation, the collaboration with the World Bank and the infusion of cutting-edge buses mark a turning point for the federal capital.
