Alphabet revealed on Friday that it now holds a stake in chipmaker Qualcomm worth $547.9 million. The holding appeared in Alphabet’s latest 13F filing with US regulators, covering its positions as of the end of September.
Qualcomm shares rose more than 3% in premarket trading after the news came out.
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, holds nearly 3 million Qualcomm shares. This is a new position. Alphabet’s 13F filing for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, filed on August 7, showed no Qualcomm shares at all.
The same filing showed Alphabet increased its stake in Elon Musk’s SpaceX. It now holds about 555 million shares, up from 551.2 million shares before.
Qualcomm reported results earlier this week. It missed Wall Street forecasts for smartphone chip sales, as phone demand stayed weak. At the same time, the company forecast stronger than expected revenue from its newer data-center chip business.
