TikTok removes over 14 million video in Pakistan

TikTok, the popular short video social media platform has removed over 14 million videos during the second quarter of 2023 due to violations of its community guidelines.

In its second quarterly report, TikTok disclosed that it enforced the removal of more than 14 million videos in Pakistan during the same period, all in accordance with the platform’s community guidelines.

Remarkably, a significant portion of these videos, approximately 83.6%, were taken down before they could be viewed by users, and nearly 92.5% were removed within a day from their posting, as detailed in the report.

While the report didn’t specify the exact content that led to the videos being removed, it did emphasize TikTok’s commitment to halting the dissemination of misinformation and other harmful material.

Additionally, TikTok reported taking action against accounts of users under the age of 13, resulting in the removal of 18.8 million such accounts worldwide. The removal process was carried out by automated systems, with over 6.4 million videos being reinstated following employee reviews.

The report highlights that TikTok achieved an impressive proactive removal rate of 98.6% in the second quarter of 2023.

TikTok released a statement reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and authentic environment for all users through its community guidelines, emphasizing that these rules apply universally to people and content across the platform.
