Pakistan will host four matches of the Asia Cup 2023 cricket tournament in Lahore and Multan, according to a source in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). This decision was made to avoid traveling and logistic problems for the teams and the organizers.
The source told The News that Lahore will be the main venue in Pakistan, while Multan will get some share of the matches. Further, the source said that the PCB is still negotiating to get a fifth match, which was decided by the previous PCB administration.
The official schedule of the Asia Cup 2023 is expected to be announced soon. The tournament will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, with the final to be played in Colombo. This tournament will feature six teams: Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and a qualifier.
The source also said that the spectators coming to Sri Lanka for the matches will be asked to buy tickets in dollars. Further added that this is to attract more fans from across the sub-continent and other parts of the world, especially for the matches involving Pakistan and India.
The source also expressed satisfaction over the ICC revenue adjustment, where Pakistan will get the fourth largest share after India, Australia, and England. Added that this will help the PCB to invest more in developing cricketing skills and taking Pakistan cricket to new heights.
The PCB had recorded its dissent over the ICC revenue model, as it had sought more information and data on the criteria and calculation of the distributions. However, the majority of the members voted in favor of passing the model.
