Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam is likely to return as the captain of the national Test team, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expected to make the official announcement during a press conference in Lahore on Tuesday.
According to reliable sources, the PCB selection committee has finalized plans to appoint Babar Azam as Pakistan’s new Test captain, marking a significant leadership change ahead of the team’s upcoming international assignments.
The selection committee also scheduled to announce Pakistan’s squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies during the same press conference. However, the squad for the subsequent England tour will revealed at a later stage.
Pakistan’s busy Test calendar includes two away Tests against the West Indies, followed by a challenging three-match Test series in England. The PCB is reportedly looking to strengthen the team’s leadership as it prepares for these important overseas tours.
At present, Shan Masood serves as Pakistan’s Test captain. However, his tenure has come under scrutiny after Pakistan suffered disappointing Test series defeats against Bangladesh, both on home soil and in Dhaka. Those results have intensified discussions about a possible change in captaincy.
Speculation surrounding Babar Azam’s return as Test captain has gain momentum on social media over the past day, with several reports suggesting that the former all-format captain set to reclaim the leadership role.
While the PCB has yet to issue an official confirmation, cricket fans are eagerly awaiting Tuesday’s announcement, which could mark the beginning of a new chapter for Pakistan’s Test team under Babar Azam’s leadership.
If confirmed, Babar Azam’s appointment would represent one of the most significant decisions taken by the PCB ahead of Pakistan’s crucial Test assignments against the West Indies and England, with supporters hoping his leadership can help the team regain consistency in the longest format of the game.
