The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially barred families from staying with players during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Despite a request from team management for emotional support, the board remains committed to strict discipline and team focus following recent overseas tour setbacks.
While the pressure of a World Cup usually calls for some home comfort, the BCCI is drawing a hard line. The board recently rejected a formal request from team management to allow wives and fiancées to stay with the squad.
However, players can still arrange separate accommodations for their loved ones, but they won’t be sharing the team hotel. This decision follows the strict BCCI family guidelines established after the 2025 Australia tour. During that series, reports surfaced that family commitments caused some players to miss vital team meetings.
India plays three group matches on home soil before the high-stakes India vs Pakistan clash in Colombo on February 15. Typically, the board allows a 14-day family window for tours exceeding 45 days. However, the T20 World Cup 2026 doesn’t meet that criteria. The board even enforced this “no-family” rule during the bilateral series leading up to the tournament. For now, the players are sticking to a “business-only” environment to reclaim the trophy.
