Pakistan Face Hong Kong Today in Must-Win Women’s Asia Cup Group Match

Fatima Sana’s Pakistan team faces Hong Kong at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium today in their final Group A fixture. The team needs a win against Hong Kong today to safely qualify for the semi-finals in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026.

Pakistan enters today’s crucial match following a loss to India. Currently sitting on two points from two matches (by an earlier 35-run win over Thailand) Pakistan must overcome Hong Kong to avoid an early exit from the tournament.

Group leaders India have already qualified with three wins, leaving Pakistan, Thailand, and Hong Kong to battle for the remaining qualification spot from Group A. Thailand has concluded its group fixtures with two points, while Hong Kong remains at the bottom without a win.

Qualification Scenarios and Net Run Rate

A clean victory over Hong Kong will take Pakistan to four points, officially sealing their passage into the semi-finals without needing to rely on mathematical calculations.

If weather disruptions or a no-result occurs, Pakistan gets 1 point. That gives them 3 points total, which is sufficient to finish above Thailand and Hong Kong.

Even if Pakistan loses to Hong Kong, three teams (Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong) will be tied with 2 points each. The spot will then be decided by Net Run Rate (how well teams scored overall). Because Pakistan’s run rate is much better than Hong Kong’s and Thailand’s, they can still go through unless they lose by a massive margin.

Captain Fatima Sana and the team management are expected to address batting vulnerabilities as they step onto the field today.
