In a surprising turn of events during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 Draft on Wednesday, left-handed pacer Mohammad Amir has found a new home with Quetta Gladiators. This move follows his release by Karachi Kings, a team he had been associated with since the inaugural season in 2016.
Amid speculations that Amir might go unnoticed in the draft, Quetta Gladiators made a bold move by selecting him as their second pick in the Platinum round. The 2019 PSL champions expressed their excitement in adding the seasoned left-arm pacer to their squad.
Amir, taking to his social media account, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and shared a verse from the Qur’an: “And He honors whom He wills, and He disgraces whom He wills.”
Amir left international cricket in December 2020. He now plays in different global leagues. Hafeez urged him to return to the national team by focusing on domestic cricket, but Amir is firm in his retirement decision.
However, Amir has firmly stated his commitment to retirement during a media interaction earlier this year. He emphasized the need for the younger generation to take the lead, stating, “I have retired now, how am I hopeful for my return? Now I have grown old, and there are youngsters in the team.”
As Amir embarks on this new chapter with Quetta Gladiators, cricket enthusiasts await the upcoming PSL season to witness the impact of this unexpected move on the field.
