Wasim Akram vs. Imad Wasim: Domestic Cricket Debate Heats Up

Pakistan cricketer Imad Wasim has responded to concerns raised by former captain Wasim Akram regarding players’ involvement in domestic cricket. Akram, speaking on a local sports channel, expressed worry about players prioritizing T10 cricket over prestigious tournaments like the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the ongoing Pakistan Cup.

Akram questioned the commitment of players who, despite not being actively involved with the Pakistan team, choose other avenues. He emphasized the challenge of players participating in television activities while aspiring to represent Pakistan, questioning the feasibility of such a scenario.

Imad Wasim, in a candid response to Akram’s comments, expressed frustration and shared his personal experience of being dropped from the national team without apparent justification.

“When I played for the Pakistan team, I held the World No. 02 all-rounder ranking. However, I was inexplicably dropped. What assurance do I have that participating in domestic cricket will lead to consideration for national selection? Moreover, I am open to advice from those who highlight these concerns,” Imad stated.

The 34-year-old cricketer pointed out that despite showcasing his skills in domestic cricket two years ago, he was overlooked for national selection.

“Even when I played domestic cricket two years ago as requested, my performance was evident. However, I was still not considered for national selection. It raises doubts about the process,” he added.

Imad Wasim’s response sheds light on the challenges faced by players striving for recognition despite their contributions in domestic cricket. The conversation between Wasim Akram and Imad Wasim underscores the ongoing debate surrounding player selection and commitment in Pakistani cricket.
