A 67 year old Colombian woman has gone viral globally after revealing how she built a successful enterprise by documenting and selling local gossip, claiming the venture helped her buy two houses.
Miryam, a resident of Armenia in the Quindío region of Colombia, has turned casual eavesdropping into a structured commercial trade. Rather than treating chatter as a pastime, she positions herself as a professional information gatherer, proudly calling herself a “chismosa” (the Spanish term for gossip).
Operating from social spots or directly outside her residence Miryam carefully tracks community happenings. She carries a notebook everywhere to record daily dramas, family arguments, and personal secrets. To maintain credibility she cross references her details with friends and collects physical proof, such as photographs, before passing information along.
Pricing Strategy and Major Sales
Miryam operates her business using a tiered pricing model based on the sensitivity of the information.
- Routine neighborhood news sells for between 5,000 and 10,000 Colombian pesos.
- Sensitive information commands much higher rates. Her most lucrative transaction brought in 700,000 pesos from a local resident to suppress details regarding an extramarital affair
She claims that the steady income generated from her unique enterprise has allowed her to purchase two homes.
