Crackdown on PTI Leaders: Asad Umar Detained by Islamabad Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad

Asad Umar, a prominent leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was arrested on Wednesday from the demesne of the Islamabad High Court. The Islamabad police’sAnti-Terrorist Squad carried out the arrest, although the reason for his detention remains unclear.

Umar, who was with PTI’s Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the time of his arrest, was preparing to file a plea in the IHC to seek a meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan. Still, he was taken down by the police before he could do so.

This is the third similar detention of a PTI leader following Imran Khan’s arrest on Tuesday. The party claims that former Punjab governor Omer Cheema was also “kidnapped” before.

On Tuesday night, PTI’s Ali Zaidi, chairman of the party’s Sindh chapter, was reportedly arrested by the Sindh Police from Kalapul in Karachi. He was leading the PTI workers’ kick against Imran’s arrest when the Karachi police allegedly took action after protesters allegedly set the police van on fire near Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The former PM’s arrest in the Al- Qadir Trust Case by public Responsibility Bureau( NAB) outside the IHC on Tuesday led to wide demurrers across the country. The PTI prompted sympathizers to protest and” block all roads, near all shops” across Pakistan.
