LUMS Students Challenge Caretaker PM with Tough Questions

In a momentous visit, Interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar graced Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) with his presence on Monday, participating in a special session aimed at connecting with the youth of the nation. The visit, although insightful, was not without its share of challenges.

Kakar interacted with LUMS students, sharing insights on making life-altering decisions without fear of making the wrong choice. He expressed enthusiasm in the presence of the vibrant youth, acknowledging them as a wellspring of inspiration for the senior generation.

However, the visit was not without its share of dissenting voices. Some students raised concerns about the Prime Minister’s punctuality. An outspoken student expressed disappointment, stating, “Sir, you have come to a university, students have taken their time, teachers are waiting for you. You still came 50 minutes late. I am ashamed that my Prime Minister, indeed the Caretaker Prime Minister, has no respect for knowledge.”

In response, Prime Minister Kakar attributed the delay to a crucial cabinet meeting. He emphasized the significance of discussions held in these meetings and their far-reaching consequences. He clarified, “If I take decisions that have not properly discussed, I will not doing the job for which I have elected. I was not chosen for this job to come and talk to you.”

Prime Minister Kakar also pointed out that the students had the choice to leave if they were disappointed. This move displayed his respect for the autonomy of the students.

The students did not shy away from addressing pressing issues, including the delayed elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Prime Minister Kakar explained that the date of the election determined by the Parliament and not within his mandate. He reassured the students that this was an issue under parliamentary control.

A student questioned the Prime Minister’s visit to LUMS during a turbulent time. The caretaker Prime Minister clarified that he wanted to visit institutions and interact with the younger generation to assess their ability to tackle Pakistan’s challenges.

During the session, a student used the term ‘selected’ to refer to Prime Minister Kakar’s appointment. In response, the Prime Minister corrected them, stating that he was not nominated as a ‘selectee.’
