US Thanks Pakistan For Hosting OIC Summit On Afghanistan

The United States of America thanked Pakistan on Wednesday for hosting the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit on Afghanistan.

“The OIC Extraordinary Session on Afghanistan is a prime example of our collective determination and action to help those most in need,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a tweet.

“We thank Pakistan for hosting this vital meeting and inviting the global community to continue cooperating to support the Afghan people,” Blinken added.

The 17th extraordinary session was hosted by Pakistan over the weekend on Sunday. During the session, Muslim nations vowed to work with the UN to unfreeze Afghan assets.

Delegated said they would work “to unlock the financial and banking channels to resume liquidity and flow of financial and humanitarian assistance”.

This meeting was the biggest conference on Afghanistan since the US-backed government fell in August.

It is unfortunate how billions of dollars in aid and assets have been frozen by the international community during winter.

According to an OIC resolution, the Islamic Development Bank would try to free up assistance by the first quarter of next year.
