Abbas Araghchi Praises Pakistan, Qatar for Key Role in Lebanon War Ceasefire Progress

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has credited Pakistan and Qatar for achieving a significant diplomatic breakthrough aimed at ending the ongoing Lebanon conflict, describing their mediation efforts as a major step toward regional peace and stability.

In a statement posted on social media, Araghchi said he had seen “significant strides in the resolution of the Lebanon war and de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East” thanks to “tireless Pakistani and Qatari mediation.” He pointed to several important steps: relaxation of restrictions on oil and petrochemical exports, the start of the lifting of blockades, the release of some frozen assets, and the initiation of a large-scale reconstruction and development program.

Lebanon Ceasefire Mechanism Faces First Major Test

The effectiveness of the new “Lebanon Deconfliction Cell” will be pivotal to the success of the emerging agreement, the Iranian foreign minister has said, outlining a process that aims to defuse conflict between the parties and facilitate implementation of ceasefire agreements.

The recent developments are encouraging, but the deconfliction mechanism will be the first serious test of whether the diplomatic understandings achieved can lead to enduring peace on the ground, Araghchi said.

Pakistan’s Growing Role in Regional Diplomacy

The recent comments highlight Pakistan’s growing involvement in international mediation roles. In addition to Qatar, Pakistan has also heavily engaged in promoting talks between major regional actors and promoting diplomatic efforts to stop further escalation in the Middle East.
