Iran Attack Delayed: Oil Prices Drop Over $4 Per Barrel After Trump’s Announcement

Global oil prices fell by more than $4 per barrel after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a proposed military strike on Iran had been postponed. The development eased concerns over an immediate escalation in Middle East tensions, leading to a sharp decline in crude oil prices.

International media reports said Brent crude fell $4.08 to $83.85 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $4.01 to $80.66 per barrel.

The drop was driven by a rally in response to Trump’s decision to postpone the planned assault on Iran, which eased concerns about possible disruption of global oil supplies.

Middle East Tensions Had Driven Oil Prices Higher

Over the last month, oil markets had surged in response to the growing Middle East tensions. Both Brent and WTI crude prices had surged over 20% since the United States initiated military action against Iran and Iranian-backed militants allegedly attacked several oil tankers offshore Oman.

The developments had added to worries over the security of key shipping lanes and the stability of global energy supplies, sending crude oil prices to multi-week highs.

Market Focus Shifts to Regional Developments

Although prices have dropped again, analysts say they may stay volatile as investors wait to see how political and military events unfold in Iran, the U.S. and the larger Middle East. A fresh flare up or disruption in oil exports can have a rapid effect on the global energy market.

The delay in military response has so far helped to relieve supply worries, but uncertainty over the region has left traders on their guard.
