North Korean leader Kim Jong Un appeared at a clothing and footwear exhibition with his daughter after social media posts claimed he had suffered a brain hemorrhage, fallen into a coma and died. North Korean state media reported his visit on Tuesday, October 20, following the rumors that spread over the weekend.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Kim toured the 2026 National Garment and Footwear Exhibition on Monday. State media images showed him inspecting shoes and clothing alongside his daughter, Ju Ae, and senior officials. South Korean media also reported that his wife, Ri Sol Ju, accompanied them.
The images have not been independently verified, and their publication does not establish when they were taken. However, no credible evidence has emerged to support claims that Kim died or was transferred to a hospital in Beijing.

How the Rumors Started
The speculation spread on X between Sunday and Monday. Wanjun Xie, chairman of the China Democracy Party, claimed that Kim had suffered a severe cerebral hemorrhage and received emergency treatment in China. He later alleged that Kim had died and his body had been secretly returned to North Korea.
The posts provided no verifiable evidence for these claims. Neither North Korean nor Chinese authorities confirmed the alleged medical emergency.
North Korea Continues Weapons Development
The rumors emerged as North Korea continued to publicize its military development. On October 17, KCNA reported that the country had tested a new artificial intelligence-assisted torpedo system called Zam-2.0.
North Korea has also showcased an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States. The developments come amid speculation about a possible meeting between Kim and US President Donald Trump during Trump’s planned trip to China for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November.
Trump has raised the possibility of meeting Kim, but no meeting has been confirmed.
