President Trump and China’s leader, Xi Jinping, are expected to discuss trade, Taiwan, and the war in Iran at a summit in Beijing. The meeting could determine whether the U.S.-China détente will continue.

The US president has arrived at the Temple of Heaven, an ancient complex of temples in Beijing and a major tourist attraction, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Trump was expected to visit the temple this afternoon with Xi. The complex announced two days ago that it will be closed to the public today.

“We should be partners, not adversaries,” he said. “I have always believed that the common interests between China and the United States outweigh their differences.”

The US and Israel’s war on Iran is likely to feature in the talks, as China is Tehran’s biggest oil and gas customer.
