Authorities in China canceled hundreds of flights, closed schools. Large-scale testing begins on Thursday to try to contain the new COVID-19 outbreak linked to a group of tourists.
Beijing has maintained a zero-sum approach with tight border closures and targeted lockdowns. However other countries seek to temporarily ease sanctions.
On large scale domestic outbreak has been eliminated. Since China entered the fifth consecutive day of new cases mostly in the north and northwest, authorities have stepped up corona virus control.
The new outbreak reported to involve an elderly couple in a group of tourists. The couple started in Shanghai before flying to Xi’an, Gansu Province and Inner Mongolia.
Dozens of COVID cases rises with close ties to at least five provinces and territories, including the capital, Beijing.
Local governments have launched large-scale investigations and closed natural sites and tourist attractions. Schools and recreational areas in the affected areas are imposed targeted lockdowns.
Some areas, including Lanzhou, a city of about 4 million people in northwestern China have informed the residents not to leave unless necessary.
People who need to leave house should have proof of negative COVID-19 test.
