Iran has made it clear that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz will remain under Iranian control even if a future agreement is reached with the United States. According to Iranian media reports, Brigadier General Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated that all transit routes, shipping schedules, and maritime licenses related to the Strait of Hormuz would continue to be regulated by Iranian authorities.
He emphasized that Iran would maintain full administrative authority over the vital waterway regardless of any future diplomatic understanding or international agreement. The statement comes shortly after US President Donald Trump claimed that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen under a possible deal with Iran.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, connecting the Persian Gulf with global markets. Any tension surrounding the waterway often impacts international oil prices and regional security. Iran’s latest remarks signal that Tehran is unwilling to hand over operational control of the Strait, even while discussions regarding regional stability and possible agreements continue.
