Trump Threatens to Destroy Iran’s Power Plants and Bridges if No Nuclear Deal Is Reached

US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying the United States could target the country’s power plants and bridges if Tehran refuses to reach a new nuclear agreement.

Trump, commenting on the simmering tensions, said the US had already held talks with Iranian officials and is seeking Tehran to agree to a deal. If negotiations stall and Iran refuses to comply with the proposed terms, the United States could strike at key infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges, as early as next week, he said.

Trump also claimed that military operations against Iran would continue until he decides they should stop. Iran’s military strength has been greatly diminished, he added, though it has limited ability to continue fighting.

The new comment arrives at a time when the US and Iran are increasingly tense and as doubts emerge regarding the potential for further military developments in the Middle East. An attack on critical infrastructure could have far-reaching regional and global ramifications, according to analysts.

Trump also seemed to have changed his mind on a proposed 20 percent toll tax on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz earlier. Less than 24 hours after floating the idea, he said imposing a toll on vessels using the strategic waterway was not a proposal he supported.
