British travelers heading to the United Arab Emirates should exercise caution due to an increased threat of terrorist attacks, according to the latest guidance from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
Travel advice for this popular Gulf destination, which annually hosts approximately 1.5 million British tourists, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, was updated on October 29. The revised assessment now indicates that the likelihood of terrorist attacks occurring in the UAE is high.
The FCDO also warns that these attacks may be indiscriminate and could target places frequented by foreign visitors.
Terrorist groups have issued threats regarding potential attacks in the Gulf region, including those aimed at Western interests. Travelers are strongly advised to maintain a heightened level of security awareness, particularly in public spaces and during public events.
While the advisory does not specifically mention the Israel-Hamas conflict, it does provide context by mentioning missile and drone attacks on the UAE from Yemen in early 2022.
UK citizens are encouraged to stay informed through local media and follow the guidance of local authorities in the event of an attack, which is considered likely. Additionally, British travelers are reminded to obtain comprehensive travel insurance and confirm that it offers adequate coverage.
Visitors to the UAE are also urged to check current entry requirements and any existing restrictions. It’s important to note that there are currently no travel advisories in effect for any specific regions within the UAE.
