Iranian Chief Negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf demands the full implementation of the expired Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding before reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf handed a list of demands directly to Washington. He made the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz conditional upon the fulfillment of these terms.
Ghalibaf demanded the full implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. The validity period of this agreement expired yesterday.
Terms of the Memorandum
Under the original agreement, the US and Iran agreed to halt military operations in regions like Lebanon. Iran agreed to renounce its right to acquire nuclear weapons.
In return, the United States promised specific actions:
- To lift its naval blockade against Iran.
- To lift economic sanctions on Iran.
- To release frozen Iranian funds.
- To initiate a reconstruction plan for Iran.
Iran promised to keep the Strait of Hormuz open under these conditions.
