A significant oil and gas discovery has been reported in the province of Sindh, where a new hydrocarbon reserve has been identified in the Sanghar district, marking an important development for Pakistan’s energy sector.
The state-owned exploration company Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has reported the breakthrough to the government and shareholders.
Oil Production Capacity: 2,000 Barrels Per Day
According to official details, the newly discovered well is expected to produce:
- 2,000 barrels of crude oil per day
- 1.1 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas
Energy experts consider this output a valuable contribution toward reducing Pakistan’s growing reliance on imported fuel.
Well Details: Bobby Deep-1 in Sembar Formation
The discovery was made at Bobby Mining Lease “Bobby Deep-1”, which was drilled 3,305 metres deep in the Sembar Formation.
The well is said to be 100 percent owned and operated by OGDCL, adding to its exploration portfolio in Sindh.
Impact on Pakistan Energy Sector
This latest Sindh oil and gas discovery is expected to:
- Reduce pressure on Pakistan’s energy imports
- Improve domestic oil and gas supply balance
- Support industrial and economic stability
- Encourage further exploration in the Sanghar region
Experts feel that moderate daily production from this well will be of long-term strategic importance for Pakistan’s energy security.
The finding in Sanghar district is another significant milestone in Pakistan’s upstream energy industry. Such discoveries, which are led by OGDCL, may be a major contributing factor to the nation’s own oil and gas reserves in years to come.
