MDCAT Results: Sindh Government Rejects Concerns Over Karachi Candidates

The Sindh Health Department has told the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council that MDCAT 2026 results do not support claims of poor performance by Karachi candidates, citing division-wise data to defend the results.

The department’s response follows criticism after no Karachi candidate secured a place among Sindh’s top 20 MDCAT scorers. The results prompted the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services to call for a high-level inquiry into possible irregularities.

Karachi Leads in Division-Wise Performance

According to the department’s letter, Karachi Division recorded the province’s highest share of candidates scoring 90 or more marks. Of the 9,505 candidates from Karachi, 66.98 per cent reportedly reached that score, while the division’s average marks stood at 107.67.

The figures cited in the response show that 55.04 per cent of candidates from Sukkur, 54.50 per cent from Larkana, 53.62 per cent from Shaheed Benazirabad and 52.34 per cent from Hyderabad scored 90 or more marks. The department also said all Karachi districts ranked among Sindh’s nine best-performing districts.

The Health Department said Sukkur IBA Testing Services compiled the results and that candidate numbers and domicile details were made available to support transparency.

Government Defends Domicile-Based Admissions

The department said public medical college seats in Sindh are allocated by district, with Karachi’s seats reserved for candidates holding Karachi domicile. It argued that higher scores by candidates from other districts do not affect Karachi’s district-based seat allocation.

The letter also noted that domicile does not establish where candidates prepared for the examination. Students from across Sindh travel to cities such as Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana for MDCAT preparation.

The Sindh government has urged authorities to recognize candidates’ achievements across the province and avoid making the results controversial for political reasons. The Senate committee’s call for an inquiry has placed the examination process and result pattern under scrutiny.
