Private schools in Punjab have urged the provincial government to shorten the ongoing summer vacations and allow educational institutions to reopen from August 3, 2026, instead of the officially announced reopening date of August 24, 2026.
The demand was raised during a discussion at the meeting of Private School Solutions of Pakistan chaired by its President Malik Abdul Samad on the issues affecting the private educational institutions, government restrictions and ways to reduce the academic disruptions of students.
Private Schools Call for August 3 School Reopening
The representatives of private schools said that the proposed late August summer break could have a detrimental effect on students’ learning. They urged the Punjab government to amend the plan for the reopening of schools and allow private schools to reopen from August 3, 2026.
The organisation feels that the earlier reopening of schools will enable schools to complete their syllabus in time and minimize learning loss amongst students.
Students’ Academic Progress a Key Concern
Members emphasized that an early return would not only be good for students’ education but it would also help to keep teaching activities running without any unnecessary delays during the meeting. They stated that reducing the summer break would assist educational institutions to better adhere to their academic calendar.
The students demanded the government to reconsider its decision and approve the proposed reopening date in the interest of students and education.
Unregistered Private Schools Asked to Complete Registration
In his message to the meeting, Malik Abdul Samad also highlighted the importance of all unregistered private schools to finish the registration process without delay. He said only the legally registered educational institutions can continue to give education services with a permanent basis and following government regulations.
Punjab Government’s Official Summer Vacation Schedule
It is worth noting that Punjab government had earlier announced summer vacations for all public and private schools and colleges in the province from 22nd May 2026 to 23rd August 2026.
As per the official notification, all educational institutions will be reopened starting Monday, August 24, 2026. The Punjab government has yet to issue any notification for the approval of the private schools’ request to reopen earlier.
