CNG and LPG Cylinders Banned in Karachi School Vans

Educational authorities in Karachi have imposed an immediate ban on CNG and LPG cylinders in all school vans. It is to ensure student safety following a recent fire incident.

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) issued strict directives to all affiliated private and public schools to enforce an immediate and complete ban on vehicles using compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for student transport. Transport operators failing to comply face heavy fines, vehicle impoundment and potential legal action.

The administrative action follows a fire incident involving a school transport van in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony. The blaze which was triggered by a short circuit, caused smoke inhalation injuries and facial and arm burns among several student passengers who required immediate hospital treatment.

Enforcement Rules and Safety Requirements

Law enforcement and traffic authorities will impound non-compliant vehicles, issue heavy challans, and seize illegal gas cylinders.

Educational institutions are instructed to audit third-party transport providers to ensure vehicles operate solely on authorized liquid fuels like petrol or diesel.

Furthermore transporters must install functional fire extinguishers and clear emergency exits to maintain operational permission for student pick-and-drop services.
