Bollywood Actor Nana Patekar Passes Away at 75 This Morning

Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar died on Thursday at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He leaves behind a career spanning nearly five decades across Hindi and Marathi cinema.
Patekar was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa, after experiencing chest pain. A medical team responded to the emergency and attempted to revive him.
He was taken to Manipal Hospital, where doctors continued CPR for about 45 minutes. Dr Shekhar Salkar, chief of the hospital’s oncology department, said Patekar was declared dead at around 5:20 AM. A medico-legal case has been registered and a post-mortem examination is expected.
Patekar’s son, Malhar, also confirmed his death.
From Gaman to Welcome
Born Vishwanath Patekar, the actor began his film career with the 1978 Hindi film Gaman. He went on to build a major body of work in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
Patekar won three National Film Awards. He received Best Supporting Actor awards for Parinda and Agni Sakshi, and Best Actor for Krantiveer. India honored him with the Padma Shri in 2013.
He also directed and wrote Prahaar: The Final Attack and remained active in Marathi cinema.
A new generation of viewers became familiar with Patekar through his role as gangster Uday Shetty in the 2007 comedy Welcome. The character became one of his most widely recognized performances.
Patekar was also involved in social work through the Naam Foundation, which works on issues affecting farmers and rural communities.
His death marks the end of a career that crossed theatre, Hindi cinema and Marathi cinema for almost 50 years.
