The Arafah sermon is one of the most important and awaited events of the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage of Muslims to Makkah. It is delivered on the Day of Arafah, the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah, at the Nimra Mosque in Arafah, a plain near Makkah where pilgrims gather to pray and seek forgiveness from Allah.
This year, the Arafah sermon will be delivered by His Excellency Sheikh Yusuf bin Muhammad bin Saeed, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, on July 26, 2023. The sermon will start at 2:30 PM PST. The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has announced that the sermon will be broadcast live with translation into 20 languages, including Urdu.
This is part of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ project for simultaneous translation of sermons, which aims to spread the message of Islam to a wider audience and foster unity and understanding among Muslims from different cultures and backgrounds.
The translation of the sermon will be transmitted through Manarat Al-Haramain, a digital platform that provides electronic services to the public. Manarat Al-Haramain also broadcasts Friday sermons, Islamic lectures, lessons, and seminars from the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque.
Urdu is one of the most widely spoken languages among Muslims globally, especially in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and other parts of South Asia. By including Urdu in the live translation of the sermon, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia shows its commitment to ensuring that a large number of Muslims can benefit from the spiritual wisdom and guidance provided in the Arafah sermon.
The live translation of the sermon will enable Urdu speakers and other Muslims from diverse linguistic backgrounds to understand and connect with the sermon on this sacred occasion. It will also promote intercultural dialogue, strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, and enhance the sense of unity among Muslims from different parts of the world.
